Board From mantel of the John Brown birthplace, Torrington. Mantel has beveled edge and contains a painting of the house on the front of the board. Backside of board is painted green. Piece of Paper Adhered To Back of Board with following notation: "This is to certify that this piece of board was taken from the fireplace of John Brown House built in 1776 in Torrington, Conn. Signed, Geo. Crippen" ** George Crippen was a Civil War veteran and survivor of Andersonville prison. |
