Description |
Hand Carved capital from original Torringford meetinghouse, erected in 1768 and torn down in 1838. Ornamented the Top of One of the Pillars Over the Pulpit. Painted Grey. In the 1830s, the people of Torringford voted to replace their 18th century meetinghouse with a new church. The first building was dismantled and according to one account, "the old church was sold by the piece to the highest bidder, and therefore, some of the fragments may be seen still in Torringford". |
